Hong Kong Barista Championship will be taking place, for the first time, in Hong Kong. The competition will be hosted by Hong Kong Professional Coffee Association. It will be held on 7th September, 2011 and in conjunction with Restaurant and Bar Hong Kong 2011 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Winner will represent Hong Kong in 2012 World Barista Championship. The aim of Hong Kong Barista Championship is to highlight professionalism, passion and skill through various criteria as outlines in the WBC Rules and Regulations, as well as to promote coffee culture in Hong Kong.

Sonja Björk Grant, is one of two owners of a small coffee company, Kaffismidja Íslands, – a coffee school, roastery and a cafe. She is a barista, roasts coffee, and train’s barista. For 16 years she has been in the coffee industry, for the first 13 years she worked as a manager, barista, trainer and creator of training material for the Kaffitár but during the last 3 years with her own company. She is one of the pioneers of World Barista Championship and other barista championship owned by SCAE (specialty coffee association of Europe) and also one of the creators of the barista competitions judge system. She has been involved with judging and organizing championships around the world since the year 2000. Sonja was chosen by SCAE as the Trainer/Teacher of the year 2007 in Europe. Sonja is the SCAE national Coordinator in Iceland, in the board of the Kaffibarþjónafélag Íslands. If she is not talking about coffee she likes to ride horses in the countryside.
